Axter Ltd has today announced that it has been accredited as a Gold Carbon Literate Organisation, highlighting the organisation's dedication towards tackling climate change and reducing its organisational carbon emissions.
Axter is the first roofing manufacturer to earn this accreditation, further reinforcing its sustainability credentials following a recent award for their Sustainability Strategy and B Corp certification achieved in the last 12 months.

By becoming a Gold accredited Carbon Literate Organisation, Axter has demonstrated its commitment to genuine low carbon action, environmental and economic impact and the building of a low carbon future for us all.
Dave Coleman, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Carbon Literacy Project
Carbon Literacy is defined as, “An awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis,” and revolves around a day’s worth of learning and action on climate change.
Since beginning their Carbon Literacy journey in 2023, Axter has undertaken a comprehensive evaluation of all aspects of their business - from operations and strategy to supply chain partners.
Carbon Literacy is now fully embedded across the company. It is a mandatory part of staff onboarding, integrated into annual performance evaluations and actively championed by Axter’s Environmental and Sustainability Leadership Team.
A key innovation contributing to Axter’s Gold certification was its collaboration with sustainability consultancy Hattrick to develop a bespoke Carbon Literacy training course for roofing installers - the first of its kind in the industry. This initiative will broaden climate awareness and inspire responsible practices across the wider roofing community.
Achieving Gold status is a proud moment for Axter and a testament to the passion and commitment of our people. We believe that real change comes from within, and that empowering our team with climate knowledge is the most powerful step we can take to create a more sustainable future for our industry. We are equally proud to be B Corp certified, placing us among a small number of firms in our industry who meet the highest standards of social and environmental impact.
