System Components

* Component /kəmˈpəʊnənt/ noun; An individual material element designed to perform a specific function on its own or as part of an Axter specified roof system assembly.

For ease of use, system components are presented in the Table of Components, a tabular display of all core components that make up our product portfolio. Components are organised sequentially, by order of appearance within a roof system assembly, and by description or use classification, as defined within the following standards publications: BS 8217 : 2005 - Reinforced Bitumen Membranes for Roofing, BS 6229 : 2018 - Flat Roofs with Continuously supported flexible waterproof coverings, BS EN 13707: Flexible sheets for waterproofing — Reinforced bitumen sheets for roof waterproofing - Definitions and characteristics and BS EN 13956: Flexible sheets for waterproofing – Plastic and rubber sheets for roof waterproofing - Definitions and characteristics.

Each component is meticulously selected for its functionality, durability, reliability, cost efficiency and sustainability characteristics, and manufactured to the highest United Kingdom, European and international quality standards. If we do not manufacture the component directly, we partner with carefully chosen suppliers to ensure the best component is sourced, produced and delivered in accordance with our precise requirements and ethics.

Use of this table

Designed for simplicity and to provide unrestricted access to our complete component and roof system assembly data, the user can easily navigate through the component table classifications to find the component or system that is of interest to them. Once quickly identified, the user can click on a component or system block to gain access to all technical, certification and performance data for immediate review and download.

We believe in transparency and appreciate that our clients, specifiers, designers and contractors all require quick and immediate access to our specialist information. The component table provides this, but if you cannot find what you are looking for please contact us and we will be happy to help.

Accessories

A comprehensive range of rooftop accessory components to ensure compatibility and single source responsibility for the roof system assembly.

Air & Vapour Control Layers

A classification of low permeability material, usually a waterproof membrane, to control the movement of air and water vapour and reduce the risk of interstitial condensation. Installed continuous, with sealed overlaps in accordance with BS 5250 and BS EN ISO 13788

Base & Underlayers

A mixed component classification grouping comprised of reinforced bitumen membrane (RBM) waterproof layers which are laid first, perforated RBM layers laid to achieve partial bonding, or waterproof RBM layers that are applied between the base/first layer, top layer or capsheet. Installed by torching, pour and roll, cold adhered or hot air welding installation technique.

Capsheets & Top Layers

The uppermost waterproof layer in a roof assembly, comprised of reinforced polymer modified bitumen incorporating a self-protected ceramic granule or mineral slate finish (capsheet) or un-protected (top layer), requiring the application of surface protection such as cold-bonded stone chippings, loose laid ballast, paving slabs, living roof or blue roof finishes.

Geomembranes

Robust, impermeable, flexible bitumen membrane layer or layers named Coletanche®, for use in environmental and geological protection, mining and civil engineering industrial sectors.

Insulation

Thermoplastic or thermoset polyurethane (PU), polyisocyanurate (PIR), expanded polystyrene (EPS), extruded polystyrene (XPS), spun mineral wool (MW), cellular glass (CG) or vacuum formed foil encapsulated panel (VIP) materials for use in a warm or inverted roof system assembly.

Liquid Membranes

The most recent addition to our component table. Cold applied liquid membrane waterproof layers compliant to European Technical Approval Guidance (ETAG) 005, liquid applied roof waterproofing kits. A classification including polymer modified bitumen emulsions, single or two component aliphatic or aromatic quick cure polyurethanes and rapid cure methacrylates.

Living Roofs

Created when a planting scheme is established on a roof structure to achieve environmental, sustainability, agricultural and social benefit. Living roof classifications can be separated into extensive, intensive, biodiverse and modular classes.

Primers, Sealants & Adhesives

The first classification grouping within the component table, primers sealants and adhesives. Used in the initial stages of roof assembly construction, and periodically throughout the installation process. Comprised of modified bitumen and/or synthetic compounds.

Reinforcements & Tape

Material components installed at slab and deck junctions, abutments, movement joints, change of angle and/or structure to complete a robust and durable roof waterproofing system assembly.

Roof Finishes

Roof finishing component classifications include all types of specialist accessory material that are used to finish a roof system assembly. Specified for functional, design, planning, sustainability and or aesthetic requirements.

Product Datasheets for Solar PV systems (panels, inverters, frames, cables and ancillaries) are available upon request from Axter Ltd's Technical Support Team, email: [email protected], telephone: 01473 935008.

Roof System Assemblies

A unique combination of components, ordered in a specified arrangement, to create a roof assembly with distinct performance attributes such as use, durability, guarantee or aesthetic.

Self Adhesive Membranes

A classification of components with unique flame free application and bonding characteristics. This component grouping contains first layers, underlayers, top layers and self-protected capsheets, installed by flame free, self-adhered/heat activated, cold-bonding or hot air welding techniques.

Separation & Filter Layers

A robust material layer or layers installed continuous with overlaps, to protect the waterproofing from material incompatibility and prevent fines from damaging the waterproof layer or blocking the roof drainage system.

Synthetic Membranes

Manufactured from PVC-p (Polyvinyl Chloride) and reinforced with glass fibre or spun bonded polyester to create a lightweight, flexible waterproof layer suitable for application in a mechanically fixed or cold-adhered roof system assembly.

Walkway & Protection

Flexible, robust and in some instances reusable layers that can be applied to a completed roof system assembly to delineate access routes and/or to provide protection to the primary waterproof layer during and post installation.
