Developed through close collaboration with architects and contractors, every roofing solution is tailored to meet the building’s unique demands and location. This includes full system specification, technical detailing, thermal performance assessments, tapered insulation schemes, wind loading analysis, and optimised rainwater drainage layouts.

For refurbishment and retrofit projects, understanding the condition of the existing roof is essential. Axter provides detailed roof survey reports that evaluate the current performance of the roof, estimate its remaining lifespan, and guide decisions for refurbishment or new installation. Our services also include advising on optimising roof space for biodiversity, energy generation, and stormwater management – helping to improve sustainability and performance.

One example of our on-site support in action is the voco Zeal Hotel at Exeter Science Park, a cutting-edge project designed to set a new standard for sustainability in the hospitality industry. Axter’s team worked closely with the architects, roofing installers, and contractors, providing bespoke waterproofing details that were incorporated into the overall design.

Our commitment to on-site support continues throughout installation, where we collaborate closely with contractors and installers to address sequencing challenges and ensure that detailing is implemented correctly.

During construction, our Quality Assurance (QA) team checks that the roof is installed correctly, safely, and in line with industry best practices. For installations over 50sqm, our QA Managers carry out regular site visits – typically every two weeks – to:

  • Monitor installation quality
  • Check compliance with Building Regulations
  • Ensure correct PPE (personal protective equipment) and health & safety practices
  • Identify and resolve potential issues early

Each visit results in a detailed Quality Report, which is shared with all stakeholders to maintain alignment and transparency. Our site inspections are particularly valued by contractor partners, who appreciate the added layer of safety and assurance they provide.

These visits ensure that the correct installation methods are followed, safety protocols are maintained, and any emerging issues are addressed promptly.
