Inside Axter’s quality assurance process: Interview with Kevin Fordham

Delivering lasting performance depends on more than just quality materials. It requires care, precision, and accountability at every stage of a project.

We spoke with Kevin Fordham, Quality Assurance (QA) Manager at Axter, to explore how the company’s rigorous QA process gives clients measurable confidence that every roof system is installed safely, correctly, and in line with specification.

Experience that builds trust

With 24 years’ experience as a roofer at Malone Roofing before moving into a QA role at Axter, Kevin brings a practical, installer’s eye to every inspection.

I’d been working with Axter systems for years, so I already knew the quality of the products and how supportive the team was,” Kevin explains. “When I got the opportunity to join the company, it felt like the right next step.”

Today, Kevin manages a team of four QA professionals, working closely with Quality Assurance Director Ian Thompson. Kevin’s role combines site inspections, report reviews, mentoring new team members, and ensuring Axter’s rigorous quality standards are maintained across every project.

Access to accredited expertise

Axter’s assurance starts with its network of accredited installers. Every contractor in the Axter Alliance and Axtershield Installer network is vetted for competence, financial stability, and proven workmanship. Each operative completes specialist product training, ensuring every installation meets exacting standards.

“Trained, approved installers make our clients’ lives easier,” Kevin notes. “They understand the systems and take pride in doing the job right, which allows us to stand behind every project with confidence.”

Protecting projects from risk

For clients, QA visits are much more than a formality. They are a safeguard.

“We visit sites regularly, monitor installation quality, and guide contractors and installers to resolve any issues straight away,” Kevin explains. “It keeps the project moving without compromising standards.”

By identifying and resolving issues early, Axter’s QA team prevents small errors from becoming costly delays and ensures every roof performs as designed. This gives architects, main contractors, and building owners confidence that systems are installed exactly as specified and in full compliance with regulations.

Reports that prove performance

Feedback from clients and contractors consistently highlights Axter’s QA reports as some of the most comprehensive in the industry.

“Many have said our reporting system is the best they’ve seen,” Kevin shares. “We take pride in that. It gives everyone confidence that every detail has been checked and documented. We even keep full photographic records for reference, so if there’s ever a query later, we can verify exactly what was installed and when.”

Every inspection and recommendation is fully documented, creating a traceable record that protects the client from future disputes and confirms the integrity of the installation.

Health and safety built in

Each QA inspection includes a full health and safety review. This ensures compliance with on-site regulations and demonstrates that Axter systems are installed under safe, controlled conditions.

“We check everything from PPE and housekeeping to equipment safety and fire prevention,” Kevin says. “It’s part of delivering a professional service and maintaining standards that clients can rely on.”

A people-first approach

Kevin values the trust and autonomy his role provides, as well as the opportunity to mentor others. “I enjoy seeing progress from one visit to the next and helping operatives take pride in their work. Many of the people I’ve trained still call me for advice,” he says.

This focus on teamwork mirrors Axter’s culture: close-knit, supportive, and committed to doing things properly while helping others achieve the same standards.

Long-term assurance for every client

Once the QA team signs off a roof, clients can be confident that it has been inspected, tested, and documented to Axter’s standards.

“Our reports form part of the foundation for Axter’s system guarantees, which can extend up to 35 years,” Kevin explains. “That level of cover is only possible because we have such tight control over quality. Clients know that if we’ve signed it off, it meets every requirement.”

Looking ahead

As Axter continues to grow, Kevin is focused on maintaining the company’s high standards while mentoring the next generation of QA professionals.

“Our goal is always the same: to deliver quality you can trust,” he concludes. “When clients work with Axter, they know the roof has been built right, checked properly, and will perform as expected for years to come.”
