Following on from our achievement of becoming a Silver Carbon Literate Organisation last year, some of the Axter team have recently taken part in a Carbon Literacy Refresher Course, building on the knowledge and reflecting on the pledges they first committed to over six months ago.
The refresher provided a chance to revisit key points from the original Carbon Literacy training, from understanding the effects of climate change to exploring how our decisions, both individually and as a business, impact the environment. The session also included updated insights on current environmental issues and developments that have taken place since the initial training.

Crucially, the course encouraged reflection. Team members were invited to review the pledges they made during their original certification; what they’ve managed to achieve, any challenges they’ve faced, and the positive changes they’ve noticed along the way.
This open discussion gave everyone a platform to share what’s worked, what hasn’t, and how we can continue to support each other in making meaningful change. Whether it’s switching to lower-carbon commuting options or influencing decisions within projects and procurement, the ripple effects of individual action are beginning to show.
The refresher gave me a chance to stop and look at the small changes I’ve made, like reducing waste in the office and being more mindful about travel. It was also helpful hearing what others have done. It reminded me that we're all in this together and learning as we go.
